CoMO Growlers & Pints Brings a New Bar Concept to State of Missouri
Columbia beer lovers now have a unique new spot to try on the south side of town.
CoMO Growlers & Pints, located at 1413 Grindstone Plaza Dr. Suite 107, is not only bringing a completely innovative concept to Columbia, but also to the entire state of Missouri. It is the first place that is strictly dedicated to filling growlers.
While some local restaurants and breweries do indeed fill growlers, CoMO Growlers & Pints is all about a variety of beer in the form of these 32 and 64 oz. jugs. For those new to growlers, they are large, jug-like containers that hold massive, to-go style quantities of beer. When filled with a bit of carbon dioxide, beer is kept fresh for a longer period of time.
Whether you want to come in just for a quick fill up or would rather stay a while and find a new favorite beer, there’s something for everyone. Even kids are welcome. They don’t serve their own food, so guests are encouraged to bring their own.
Guests are greeted at the entrance by the growler filling station where they can get their personal growlers filled or purchase a new one and have it filled on site. Both glass and plastic options are available. The back of the building is a tasting room, complete with tables, TV’s, and another bar for the tastings.
Aaron Banks, owner of CoMO Growlers & Pints, has been a craft beer lover for years. He decided to turn his passion into a business when changes to Missouri’s growler law were first proposed.
A Mizzou grad, Banks strived to help convince lawmakers to make the law more lenient and allow more than just restaurants to fill growlers. When Senate Bill 919 was passed in 2016, Banks began searching for a location for his business, even though the idea had been in the works three years prior. After his efforts, Banks wanted to create a new Columbia bar concept and give beer lovers a unique experience.
"My tap list is constantly changing because when one keg runs dry, I replace it with something completely different," says Banks. "That way, people know they will always have new beers to try when they visit.”
Banks selects what’s on tap by seeking out beers that are not available in six packs on store shelves and that are not usually carried by other Columbia bars. He also takes customer requests and tries to meet them to the best of his ability. Guests can find the ever changing tap list on CoMO Growlers & Pints' Facebook page, website, and Untappd (a beer app for finding and logging new beers).
There are 16 options on tap that constantly rotate. There is always a cider option in the tasting room for those that want a gluten free option or for those who just prefer cider to beer.
CoMO Growlers & Pints is closed on Mondays but is open for business the rest of the week.
