The idea for Columbia Restaurant Week came about when members of the Downtown CID Marketing Committee wanted to expand their events more into the dining scene. While The District offers many retail centered events throughout the year, the committee realized Columbia's dining scene was not as exposed as it could be.

Weeks of meeting with participating restaurants and building hype around the event led to 15 local restaurants within District parameters participating in the event.

Members of the committee and participating restaurants are looking forward to serving up and eating some delicious food and welcoming locals and visitors into Columbia's local dining scene.

Besides the creative, chef-inspired dishes at each spot, there is an interactive aspect to the event. If you plan to dine at three or more of the included restaurants, ask your first stop for a "Restuarant Week Passport." At the end of each meal, get your passport stamped and at the end of your culinary journey, turn it in at any location by the 18th and you will automatically be entered to win a gift card to various downtown spots on the 20th!

Below are the participating restaurants and their attached menus.
We talked to a few of the participating restaurants and got an inside look at their featured menus and their event involvement.

Shakespeares-
Why did you choose the menu items you did for this event?
They are showcase items at a great price that are popular and rarely available at this big of a discount.
What menu item(s) are you most excited about?
The Masterpiece. Good Morning America (ABC News) named it the "Best College Bites" in the nation.
What are you most looking forward to about this first annual Restaurant Week event?
Lots of customers!
Are reservations required at your restaurant and what is the best way for guests to make a reservation?
We don't take reservations, it's first-come-first-served. But our restaurants are gigantic, so we can swallow lots of hungry guests! (Get it... swallow? Nyuck, nyuck).
Is there anything else you want us to know about your involvement in this event?
We hope lots of people come!!!

Room 38-
Why did you choose the menu items you did for this event?
We tried choosing items that gave the best spread and variety from our menu for the participants to try.
What menu item(s) are you most excited about?
The small plates we chose set us apart from other restaurants options, so those are what we are excited about.
What are you most looking forward to about this first annual Restaurant Week event?
Any event that highlights The District and all it has to offer is great. We are looking forward to all the participants coming down and trying places they haven't been to yet and or trying something different at a place they might be regulars at.
Are reservations required at your restaurant and what is the best way for guests to make a reservation?
Reservations are not required, however, we do recommend that people make them so we can guarantee a table when they want. They can go online and or call the restaurant at 573-449-3838.
Is there anything else you want us to know about your involvement in this event?
Looking forward to the week and hope that this concept goes well and inspires more ideas to come out of the District!

Thip Thai -

Everything on the menu is made in-house and is popular among past guests. There are many different flavors to try and each dish is representative of popular, truly authentic Thai cuisine.
What menu item(s) are you most excited about?
Probably the mussels, dumplings and the salmon. Each of these are customer favorites and are spiced and seasoned nicely and they fit the summer season well.

The opportunity to re-introduce proper, authentic, Thai food into Columbia.
Are reservations required at your restaurant and what is the best way for guests to make a reservation?
Reservations are not required but are recommended. Call 573-442-0852 to make yours.

Glenn's Cafe -
Why did you choose the menu items you did for this event?
We chose the menu items because they showcase our cuisine and restaurant. These items are things that we do at Glenn's and you may not be able to find anywhere else. They are unique to us and have great flavor.
What menu item(s) are you most excited about?
Our Pastalaya.
What are you most looking forward to about this first annual Restaurant Week event?
That we get to put our name out there. We can showcase our style and cuisine. We are looking forward to showing what we have to offer and letting people know that we are here.
Are reservations required at your restaurant and what is the best way for guests to make a reservation?
They are not required. It is one of those things that they might be suggested on the weekend or busy hours but we will be happy to serve you anytime you come and see us. The best way to make a reservation is to just give us a call. (573) 447-7100
